About Enrollment at GBCS

The Greater Brunswick Charter School is a free, independent, public school. There are no fees or tuition for attending. However, members are expected to volunteer at least 10 hours per year--helping out with events, assisting in the classrooms, working around the school, and so on.

There are no academic or other requirements for enrollment--all children, grades K - 8, are welcome.

To be eligible for Kindergarten, students must turn five years old in time to register in their local district.

Preference for enrollment is given to students residing in Edison, Highland Park, and New Brunswick. Students from other districts in New Jersey are welcome as space permits (we currently have students from 10 different districts).

If there are more students than spots available, we will hold a lottery to determine the priority in which students are admitted.

You must attend an information session prior to registering for the lottery. Informaton session dates are listed above.

GBCS requires the same documentation for registration as other public schools. You must provide:

  • Proof of guardianship, such as an original birth certificate, tax return listing the student as a dependent, or court order granting custody.
  • Two forms of identification that prove residency, such as a driver's license, utility bill, or tax return.
  • An up to date immunization record.
  • Proof of enrollment in your local district.

Important Note: You should register your child in your local school district prior to registering at the Greater Brunswick Charter School. Contact your local school district for instructions, or contact us if you have questions.

(You can review a complete description of the enrollment process in our charter application.)
