Academic Programs

We are very excited about our academic programs. We chose programs very carefully based on evidence-based research, academic merits, and alignment with the mission and vision of our school. Our programs and resources are in English and Spanish to support our instruction model.

We use HMH Into Math in grades K-8. It is supplemented with I-Ready for Mathematics. These programs involve hands-on interactive activities and develop strong math thinking skills. In addition to these programs, we often use math games, Montessori materials, and projects.

We use Lucy Calkins Readers' and Writers' Workshop Units of Study from Columbia University Teachers' College for grades K-8. It is supplemented with Fundations and Palabras a Su Paso, Leveled Literacy Intervention for additional reading support in English and Spanish, and I-Ready for Language Arts. Finally, during the 2022-2023 School Year, we are piloting Boushy and Moser's Daily 5. In addition, we use other programs in grades K-3 to strengthen phonetic awareness and build strong decoding skills for our developing readers in English and Spanish.

Social Studies and Science at GBCS are often interdisciplinary and project-based. For Social Studies in grades 3-8 we have an interactive program, History Alive! For Science in grades 6-8 we work with IQWST, Investigating and Questioning our World through Science and Technology.
