Mile Run Brook Clean-Up
On May 12, 2018 more than 150 people joined the Lower Raritan Watershed Partnership, Greater Brunswick Charter School, Esperanza Neighborhood Partnership, Friends of Mile Run Brook and Elmwood Cemetery for a multi-site community clean-up and celebration of New Brunswick’s Mile Run Brook.
The clean-up was enlivened by our roving “Trash Troubadour” – Dave Seamon – who engaged our volunteers with song and stories as they cleaned-up the stream. Our Trash Troubadour traveled with a large sculptural bread-and-puppets style bottle (made from trash found during prior clean-ups) that clean-up volunteers covered with messages of environmental hope.
With thanks to all the volunteers for a great day of stewardship and celebration. And huge thanks to filmmaker Jessica Dotson for capturing this story of our wonderful New Brunswick, NJ community. - Heather Fenyk
Mile Run Brook clean-up - The Music Video
How many streams have their own music video? HUGE thanks to filmmaker Jessica Dotson for capturing the story of our May 2018 Mile Run Brook clean-up and community celebration. And a special shout out to our "Trash Troubadour" David Seamon for inspiring volunteers with song.
NJ DOE Commissioner Dr. Lamont Repollet Tours GBCS - Oct. 17, 2018
As part of the NJ Charter Review Tour, NJDOE Commissioner of Education visited GBCS on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Commissioner Repollet and his team were undeniably impressed by what is happening in our classrooms and school. They’ve asked us to share our Personal Education Plan materials and consider presenting our model at a conference they will hold. They recognized the impressive benefits of dual language education and loved being in our classrooms. They also noted our well established school culture, rooted in social emotional learning and restorative justice.
What we do everyday impacts our community. Today was a day to showcase our program and enjoy positive feedback from professional educators.

20th Anniversary Carnival!
We celebrated our 20th anniversary with a carnival made possible by Vera Bradley and Blessings in a Backpack. Thank you Blessings in a Backpack for sending food home on the weekends to support food security! Thank you Very Bradley for supporting Blessing in a Backpack...AND selecting GBCS as one of seven schools across the county to host a carnival. We LOVED it! We are grateful to Danielle Jonas for supporting Blessings in a Backpack and for visiting GBCS! It was wonderful to meet her and her husband, Kevin Jonas. You are welcome to come back ANY time!
